Amos Gill

Amos Gill’s stand-up comedy, The Pursuit Of Happy (ish), is a must-see for anyone looking for a good laugh. When I say ‘anyone’ though, he does begin the show saying he’s “not for everyone”, then proceeds with some material that provides a very clear indication that we’re in for a no-holds-barred adrenaline and somewhat confronting ride. Then he declares, “well this is me”. And the audience loved it. This multi-award-winning comedian has quickly become one of the hottest headliners on the US comedy circuit, and it’s easy to see why.

Amos Gill’s humour is hilarious, challenging, and original. He has performed at some of the biggest comedy venues and festivals around the world, including the Sydney Opera House and Madison Square Garden. His 2022 solo tour sold out five shows nationally, and a second show had to be added in Perth due to high demand. This show in the packed-to-capacity Virago tent at Gluttony, was accompanied by background music from another show, but Amos made a joke of it and also had an excellent sound system, so his voice was loud and clear. His energy and stage presence overrode the background sounds with ease.

The reviews for The Pursuit Of Happy (ish) are glowing. Weekend Notes calls it “f*cking hilarious,” while See Do Eat Review gives it another five-star rating, calling Gill a “five-star comedian.” Sam About Town happily joins the consensus with another 5 star rating.

Amos Gill’s background in radio and television has helped him hone his comedic skills to perfection. He is a cherished Adelaide identity, thanks to his four years hosting the Amos, Cat & Angus breakfast radio show for Australia’s biggest broadcaster, Southern Cross Austereo. In 2018, he made the decision to give up the notorious 4am starts and head to the US to pursue his comedy career. Since then, he has become a staple headliner at all the top comedy venues and festivals in both Australia and the US.

Throughout the show, Amos shares his experiences and insights on a variety of topics, ranging from his time as a radio host to his travels around the world. His clever observations and witty humour kept me thoroughly entertained, and his delivery was impeccable. Amos delivers a high-energy performance with an outstanding ability to connect with the audience.

One thing that really impressed me about Amos’ performance was his ability to seamlessly blend humour with social commentary. He fearlessly tackles topics such as racism, sexism, relationships, and mental health, while still managing to keep the audience laughing.

The Pursuit Of Happy (ish) is a hilarious and unforgettable laugh-a-minute hour that is sure to leave you in stitches. Amos Gill is undoubtedly one of the rising superstars of the comedy world, and this show is a must-see for anyone who loves to laugh.
