Forever In My Life – A Tribute to Prince – 5 stars

Grab your Raspberry Beret, jump in your Little Red Corvette and enjoy this trip down memory lane dedicated to one of the greatest artists of all time – Prince.

Michael Wheatley takes us on an often funny but sometimes emotional journey through the 80s and 90s, reminiscing how the hit songs of Prince intertwined with his own life. Wheatley’s soulful voice and solo keyboard performance are all that’s needed to bring many top hits back to the forefront of our minds. Michael’s close connection to Prince started when he was 13 years old and culminated in him being the front man in the Australian Prince Show during the 90’s. As a Prince impersonator and musician in his own right, Michael constantly struggled between inspiration and imitation as he performed night after night throughout Australia. This fringe show – Forever In My Life, is performed to the music of Prince and details the chance opportunities Michael had to take on the role and to eventually perform live on the same stage as Prince (albeit not at the same time as him).

Die-hard Prince fans will absolutely love this show and anyone who lived through this era will at least recognise the hits and thoroughly enjoy the captivating story told. As the opening line of the show stated “Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life” and get through life it does – the intertwined lives of Prince and Michael Wheatley – Prince fan and impersonator.

Highly entertaining, great value for money, Fringe talent at its best.
