Two Brunettes & A Gay – God Save the Queens! – Adelaide Fringe Review – 3.5 stars

“Life is a cabaret!”. A glittery costumed, trio of singers, paying tribute to pop royalty.

Dramatic and energetic music began the show and created an air of fun and anticipation. The lyrics of the Diana Ross classic hit, “I’m coming out, I want the world to know”, boomed out via the singers and their enthusiastic personalities.

The trio of Aaron, Celeste and Deanna were as bright as their glittery costumes as they took the audience on a journey of songs by iconic queens.

While paying tribute to stars such as Madonna, Cher, Liza Minelli, Beyonce and Kylie Minogue, the act teetered between admiration of the queens, and satire, creating some confusion as to the intent.

The small rainy Sunday night audience was in good spirits and despite the lack of numbers creating rapturous applause, the trio maintained their high energy and intensity and was rewarded with toe-tapping, smiles and bodies swaying along with the music.

This show would benefit from a little polishing in terms of harmonising, volume reduction and sound clarity as well as some costume upgrades for a few items that had seen better days.

The banter and jokes would appeal to an older audience or people who appreciate a slap-stick style of presentation. The small amount of audience participation was non-confrontational, warm and friendly.

It is clear that Aaron, Celeste and Deanna have a lot of passion for what they do and their enthusiasm translates to a lively hour of merriment.
